Q: What adhesive is good for bonding a Handi-Tread to a fiberglass surface?
A: We recommend Plexus MA300. MA300 is a two-part methacrylate adhesive designed for structural bonding of thermoplastic, metal, and composite assemblies. Make sure you mask off the area you do not want the epoxy to make contact with. Here is what MA300 is good with:

Q: Where should I place the tread on a stair?
A: We recommend that the tread be aligned with the front of the nose of the stair and then moved back ¾ of an inch. This should provide enough wood for the screw.

Q: I want to put them on a stair that is exposed to salt water. Is this OK?
A: Yes, while salt and moisture has some impact on aluminum, based on the design of the Handi-Tread™ we will honor the lifetime guarantee.

Q: What is the best screw to use in pressurized treated wood
A: We recommend a #8, ¾” stainless steel pan head tapping screw with the square drive rather than a Philips or slotted head for best torque. However, a Phillips or slotted head will also work.

Q: If I do not want to use screws, what is the best way to install a Handi-Tread onto cement?
A: While we have not tested this at Hand-Products, some customers have used an RTV. In theory, that should work. The Liquid Nails Corporation state that their polyurethane glue will work perfectly well. At Home Depot it is called Liquid Nails for Marble and Granite. At all other stores it is called Liquid Nails Polyurethane epoxy.

Q: How thick is a Handi-Tread™? Does it pose a trip and fall hazard?
A: The Handi-Tread stands .180” off the floor. OSHA does not have a standard for trip and falls but recommends against anything higher than .250”. Consequently, the Handi-Tread does not pose a trip and fall hazard.

Q: How do I install the Handi-Tread™ onto a cement surface?
A: We recommend using a Tapcon fastener or equivalent. Instructions are available in each Tapcon package or at our website.

Q: I am installing the Handi-Tread™ onto a wood ramp. How far apart should they be?
A: This is really up to individual choice. Based on our observations and analysis we recommend no more than 8 inches of open space between treads. Another way of saying this would be 12 inches center-to-center.

Q: I like the Handi-Tread™ but my stair is much wider than 30 inches. What should I do?
A: Handi-Treads can be produced to any size or shape within an envelope of 4 feet by 10 feet. With a custom order there is often a set-up charge and program charge associated with the order.

Q: What are my color choices?
A: Four color choices include: plain silver, black, brown and safety yellow. Custom colors are available. Colors are created through powder coating.
