Choose the Right HandiTreads Size for Your Stairs, Ramps, or Deck

When it comes to slip and fall prevention, one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we designed HandiTreads in a variety of shapes and sizes, each designed to fit specific surfaces like stairs, ramps, and decks.

This guide makes it easy to compare all of our product dimensions at a glance. Whether you’re covering a narrow stair tread, a long wooden ramp, or adding extra grip to your deck, you’ll find the size that suits your space best.

Stair Treads: Durable Non-Slip Protection for Every Step

Available Sizes:

  • Width: 3.75 inches
  • Lengths: 30″, 36″, and 48″

Ideal For:

  • Outdoor stairs made of wood, composite wood, concrete, or metal
  • Indoor wood or concrete steps in basements, garages, or warehouses
These aluminum stair treads offer long-lasting, slip-resistant protection in both residential and commercial environments.

Placement tips…

  • Assuming you’re purchasing a tread width that covers nearly the full width of your steps, place each stair tread in the middle of your steps, where most people will be walking, leaving only a couple of inches of free space on each side.
  • The exception to this is when you’ve got a staircase substantially wider than the treads you’re purchasing, like 30” treads on a 60” wide step. In this case, you’ll place the non-slip treads on either side of the step. You can also place two treads on substantially wider steps, like two 30” treads on 60” or wider steps.

Ramp & Deck Treads: Slim, Strong, and Built for Long Surfaces

Available Size:

  • Width: 1.875 inches
  • Length: 48 inches

Ideal For:

  • Outdoor wheelchair ramps
  • Wood ramps leading up to sheds
  • High traffic areas of decks and porches
  • Pool decks that become wet and slippery
These narrow-profile aluminum treads are designed to provide continuous grip throughout larger surfaces without completely overwhelming your surface. Their low profile at less than a 12th of an inch thick, including the traction dimples, makes them perfect for use with wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

Placement tips…

  • If installing on a wooden ramp, install a ramp tread on each or every other plank, depending on the amount of traction you need. Placement on every other board ensures spacing of approximately 8”, ensuring consistent traction and a visually balanced layout. If you discover later that you need more traction, you can simply place Ramp & Deck Treads on the skipped boards.
  • If your wheelchair ramp is not 48” wide, HandiTreads ramp treads can be cut with a circular saw to fit, OR you can use the 30” or 36” stair treads instead.
  • If installing on a porch or deck, install in places that become the most slippery or have the most foot traffic, such as pool decks and in front of doors, grills, or seating areas.

Stair Nosings: Edge Grip + Safety in One Smart Design

Available Size:

  • Tread Width: 2.75 inches

  • Overhang Lip: 1.125 inches

  • Lengths: 30″, 36″, and 48″

  •

Ideal For:

  • Outdoor wood, composite wood, concrete, brick, or metal stairs
  • Adding additional structural support to wood or concrete stairs that are beginning to crack or degrade.
HandiTreads nosings combine grip, durability, and high-visibility edges in one streamlined solution, ideal for both safety and structural support.

Placement tips…

  • Similar to stair treads, place your stair nosing in the middle of your stair with only a couple of inches of free space on either side
  • If your wood or concrete steps are beginning to crack or chip at their edges, HandiTreads nosings give additional structural support by wrapping around the stair edge and preventing further degradation.

Please Note:
We do not recommend using nosings on stairs that will be used by pets. The raised, scalloped edge might catch a nail, potentially hurting your pup.
